“Inhabit” is a documentary film project that aims to expand the reach and relatability of permaculture. Permaculture is a design science based on the observation and replication of patterns and relationships found in nature; it is an approach to designing sustainable systems of agriculture, community, economics, politics, and more.

We will travel in a solar and veggie-oil-powered bus documenting the people and projects currently giving voice to permaculture in the Northeast. We will look at permaculture practices in rural, suburban, and urban environments to break away from the conception of it being purely agricultural, and we will explore the breadth of its application to current local and global challenges - from issues of food, water, and medicine, to governance, economy, and culture.

Update: 12/22/14

Whew! We've completed a rough cut of INHABIT and we're in the process of workshopping it with some veteran documentarians/story tellers to help us polish it before release. We're feeling great about where it's at and though the timeline has shifted a bit since the beginning of our KickStarter, we're making big strides and good time. The creativity that is being poured into the film by other artists now, such as our composer (Aled Roberts) and sound engineer (CDM Studios), is very exciting and we hope you understand our needs to push the release date back to give these folks enough time to make this film sound and look the best it can be.

Checkout this screen shot from the zoomed out Editing TimeLine. You are looking at thousands of cuts, thousands of choices and hundreds of ideas all finally coming together!

PERMACULTURE VOICES CONFERENCE: We are excited to announce we will have a West Coast Screening at the Permaculture Voices Conference in San Diego, CA on Friday March 5th, 2015.  This is an amazing conference featuring presentations by some of the many farmers, designers, and teachers in our Film including Mark Shepard, Pandora Thomas & Steve Gabriel. Other Presenters include Paul Stamets, Maddy Harland & Stefan Sobkowiak to name just a few.

Tickets going fast! Hope to see you there!

CO-DISTRIBUTION: We are very excited about the distribution plan that we're formulating; we feel it's very aligned with the permaculture ethic of "Fair Share." Instead of selling the film rights to a distribution company we are partnering with a pioneer film platform called Yekra which enables anyone to sell the film as a DVD/Digital Download/Rentable. Yekra allows anyone to become an "Affiliate," which allows you to embed the film on your own website (as a download, DVD, or rentable). Every time the film is bought or rented from your link you get a % of the sales. It puts a lot of power and potential in the hands of the community. We will also be going through more traditional networks like Netflix, Itunes, and Amazon.

SETUP A SCREENING: A lot of folks have been asking about hosting their own community screenings. Thank you! We will be setting up shop with Tugg allows community members to set up their own screenings simply by pre-purchasing a certain quota of tickets. More info about that site will be coming in the next few weeks!

NON-PROFIT DONATIONS: We're also excited to announce a relationship with our new Fiscal Sponsor, PRI USA. PRI USA is a non-profit organization who will receive donations made out to INHABIT so that they will be tax deductible. This is great timing as we're so close to the year's end.... Any and all amounts are appreciated!  And...All KickStarter Rewards still apply through donations!
